“If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who is saying to you, ‘give me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” (John 4:10)

Are you thirsty? Do you long for something to quench your parched spirit? After so much disappointment and grief, it’s hard to believe that anything could fill the empty places. And yet there is a spark of hope. With trepidation, wondering if you could possibly be worthy of such a gift, you hold your cup out to the Creator of the universe…

Have you entered into relationship with your Creator? Even if you have been walking with Him for years, have you remembered to ask for His living water rather than trying to fill your needs yourself? Do you know that He longs to fill you up? His water is very different from what this world offers. The jars and the well in the background of this painting represent all the ways we try to fill ourselves. It is only through turning our back on those, realizing that they will always leave us more thirsty than when we started, and turning to God for His water, that we will find ourselves filled. His water does not protect us from grief or hardship, but it does keep us filled in the face of them.
